One of the best things about living at Lakeside Villas is what’s around us. Sunway City Ipoh sits in Tambun, surrounded by limestone hills, hot springs, and a growing list of leisure and lifestyle destinations. Whether you have visitors in town or just want a weekend plan, here’s what’s nearby.
Lost World of Tambun
Distance: ~5 minutes by car
The obvious one, and for good reason. Lost World of Tambun is a theme park and hot springs complex built into the limestone landscape right next to the township. It includes:
- Water park: wave pools, slides, and a lazy river
- Hot springs and spa: natural geothermal pools, open until late evening
- Tiger Valley: a wildlife exhibit with Siberian tigers
- Amusement park: rides and attractions for families
- Luminous Forest: an evening walk-through light experience
If you have family visiting from out of town, this is the easy recommendation. The hot springs alone are worth a regular evening visit, especially when the crowds thin out after 7pm.
The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat
Distance: ~8 minutes by car
A luxury wellness resort set against dramatic limestone cliffs, using the same geothermal hot springs that the region is known for. This isn’t a theme park. It’s a premium, adults-oriented retreat with:
- Private dipping pools fed by natural hot springs
- A geothermal steam cave
- A crystal cave meditation space
- A thermal lake
- Spa treatments and fine dining
Even if you don’t stay overnight, The Banjaran offers day-visit packages and dining that make it a special outing. It’s also a convenient recommendation when hosting guests who want something more refined than a water park.
Kek Lok Tong Cave Temple
Distance: ~15 minutes by car
One of Ipoh’s most impressive cave temples, set inside a massive limestone hill. The temple itself is peaceful and well-maintained, but the real draw is what’s behind it: step through the cave and you emerge into a beautifully landscaped garden backed by sheer limestone cliffs.
There’s a reflexology path, a pond, and views of the karst landscape that are genuinely spectacular. Free entry. Best visited in the morning before it gets hot.
Sam Poh Tong Temple
Distance: ~15 minutes by car
Another limestone cave temple, and one of the oldest in Ipoh (established in 1912). The interior is atmospheric: stalactites, Buddhist shrines, and a quiet reverence that comes from over a century of worship. The adjacent garden has a tortoise pond and more of those dramatic karst walls.
Ipoh Old Town
Distance: ~20 minutes by car
Ipoh’s historic centre is a treasure. The old town area along Jalan Sultan Iskandar (and the surrounding streets) is packed with pre-war shophouses, many now home to cafes, galleries, and boutique shops. Highlights include:
- Concubine Lane (Jalan Panglima): the most photographed street in Ipoh, lined with small shops and street food
- Kong Heng Square: a restored heritage block with cafes and an arts centre
- Ipoh Railway Station: the “Taj Mahal of Ipoh,” a magnificent colonial-era building
- Street art murals: scattered throughout the old town, many by Ernest Zacharevic and other artists
For food, Ipoh Old Town is a pilgrimage. Bean sprout chicken, white coffee, sar hor fun, egg tarts… the list goes on. Our recommendation: just park once and walk.
Gunung Lang Recreational Park
Distance: ~20 minutes by car
A lake-and-limestone park run by MBI (Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh). You take a short boat ride across the lake to reach a park area surrounded by towering karst cliffs. There are walking trails, a lookout tower, and picnic areas. It’s free, it’s quiet, and it’s a different angle on Ipoh’s limestone landscape.
Clearwater Sanctuary Golf Resort
Distance: ~10 minutes by car
If you play golf, this is the closest option. An 18-hole course set among (you guessed it) more limestone hills. The setting is genuinely beautiful, and the course is well-maintained. They also have a driving range if you just want to hit a bucket.
Sunway Medical Centre Ipoh
Distance: ~5 minutes by car
Not a leisure destination, but worth mentioning because it’s a significant convenience. Having a full-service private hospital within the township means specialist care, emergency services, and routine check-ups are all minutes away. For families with young children or elderly parents, this proximity matters.
What’s coming: Sunway Ipoh Mall (2027)
The township’s biggest upcoming addition is a full-scale shopping mall, targeted for completion in 2027. This will bring retail, dining, entertainment, and services within a short drive of Lakeside Villas, filling the one gap that residents currently feel most.
Until then, the nearest major malls are AEON Kinta City (~10 min) and Ipoh Parade (~15 min).
The bigger picture
Living in Tambun puts you at the intersection of nature and convenience. Within 20 minutes, you can be soaking in hot springs, exploring a cave temple, eating some of Malaysia’s best street food, or getting a medical check-up. That combination is hard to find elsewhere, and it’s a big part of why this area works as a place to live, not just visit.
